What Makes Them Sustainable
Biodegradable acetate frames
Conventional acetates include a petroleum based agent to ‘bond’ the materials together. Ours uses a vegetable oil (primarily soy based) agent instead. The result is a third party accredited material that meets ISO 14855 biodegradable standards (testing performed by Belguim’s Organic Waste (OWS) institute). This is literally a ‘bioplastic’.
recycled steel hinges
All metal parts are manufactured in an environmentally certified factory. Our manufacturing partner recycles all metal waste into new hinges with up to 60% of each hinge being tooled with used raw materials.
plant-derived nylon lenses
Eschewing traditional polycarbonate lenses made from petroleum, we've opted to use light and durable “Green Nylon” lenses made with 39% plant oils. Their performance is identical to traditional lenses with a significantly lower carbon footprint—an energy-saving and carbon-negative material.
