What inspired you to start The Girl From Panama?
I grew up with a love of fashion and naturally gravitated toward the industry. I worked at a fashion company during a summer internship in London, then also at a large beauty company in San Francisco after I graduated from college. I had a strong interest in blogging that just happened organically from being a part of the industry. Eventually, after a lot of careful consideration and encouragement from friends and family, I decided to start The Girl From Panama!
How do you think that your time in places like London, San Francisco, and Panama has influenced your sense of style?
I think that my time in these places definitely pushed me to try many different trends and to take some fashion risks, which ultimately helped me to create my own personal style. Most importantly, living in Panama, London, San Francisco and now Boston exposed me to different cultures and fashion styles, which continues to be a great source of inspiration for me.
Who or what inspires you?
I find inspiration in a variety of different ways. Tumblr and Pinterest are a big source of inspiration. Also, reading a magazine, browsing instagram, or maybe the weather that particular day. And of course, just walking around the city I live in, seeing the colorful locals and beautiful scenery serves as constant inspiration.
Where is your favourite place in the world?
I think my absolute favorite place in the world is Paris. I’m madly in love with that city!
What are the top 5 things that get you through the day?
A tasty Acai bowl in the morning
A quick workout session
Working on my blog!
A refreshing ice coffee in the afternoon
My task management app 30/30 (for iPhone). This is one of the best time-management apps I’ve used!
Any advice for aspiring fashion influencers?
If you want your blog to be your actual business, I would say start out by doing a lot of research. Read articles, look at other bloggers’ instagram and web pages from a perspective of: what draws people to this brand? Once you feel confident enough to get started, make sure you map out a business plan first. Come up with goals and milestones, really think strategically about how you want to build your business. Don’t be afraid to reach out and network with others. But most importantly, make sure your blog a unique expression of your style and no matter what, stay true to yourself.
What is your idea of the perfect vacation?
As I mentioned, I love Paris. Spending a couple of weeks walking around the city, seeing the sights, eating a lot of food and drinking a lot of wine, and of course doing a bit of shopping would be my ideal vacation. Beyond that, relaxing on a beach with a cold drink usually does the trick.
What drives you?
I always find ways to improve my blog so I'm constantly spending time rethinking my business, defining new goals, and pushing myself to the limits. I find nothing more satisfying than seeing hard work paying off. I enjoy being able to connect with my followers and giving them advice. There have been times where people will reach out to me asking for the perfect outfit to wear to an event, or someone will thank me for giving them some much needed fashion inspiration. These types of interactions feel fantastic and are a big part of why I work so hard to create this platform for my readers.
